shouting has stirring outcome

Well, there’s something new. With 55 minutes gone and West Ham’s players showing vim and fight on the pitch the home crowd at the London stadium could be seen up on its feet, waving its arms and sending a sustained chorus of “David Moyes’ claret and blue army” rolling around this vast, chilly, cantilevered bowl. John Kuhn Men's Limited White Jersey: Nike NFL New Orleans Saints Rush Vapor Untouchable #29As moments of ignition go, a messy 1-1 home draw against a meandering Leicester City is hardly a thunderclap. But whatever happens from here in the temp-to-perm mini-reign of Moyes as West Ham manager, he will always have Leicester, Friday night and the feeling of a spark in the grate at last. This was a first home game for the new manager, 16 days on from his slightly starchy, perma-grinning unveiling upstairs in the lavish Great Briton suite. Moyes seems to have spent much of the intervening time calling for greater effort, promising above all discipline and “basics”. It worked too, up to a point. Something shifted here, and not just for West Ham. Moyes came to the London Stadium having not won a home game as manager since 16 December. He still hasn’t. But there was a vigour about West Ham, a feeling of trapped energy inside this huge, awkardly geared stadium http://www.officialoriolesshop.com/authentic-5-brooks-robinson-jersey.html and for Moyes a night inside a football stadium he will have enjoyed more than any other in quite a while. In his newspaper column on the day of this game Moyes had set great store in two things: running and shouting. Moyes is desperate to improve the players’ fitness and here they did run hard right up to the final moments. Shouting is also an issue. “It’s when I stop shouting that you know I’ve given up on you,” Moyes said. Which is an odd kind of rallying call but perhaps a fitting one given the struggle to generate a feeling of boisterous home-town comfort inside this oddly troubling stadium. This is clearly a major part of West Ham’s unease in the last two seasons. The crowd here have done all they can and at times they create a real sense of heat. At others, for all the bubbles, the Moyes-dust sprinkled over the occasion, there is simply an emptiness, a sense of disjunct in a place that really should be a source of strength. And you may find yourself living in a large, empty, hollow bowl. And you may find yourself In another part of the world. And you may ask yourself, well, how did I get here? It is a question some West Ham fans have been asking in recent weeks. Here, for all the official attendance figures, the London Stadium was two-thirds full at kick-off, with open patches of white seats dotted around. There was the usual game, pre-match attempt to force a feeling of urgency into this vast open space, like trying to stage an intimate meal for two at both ends of a 40-foot antique dining table. And Moyes was out straight away Larry Robinson Youth jersey to the edge of his vast chalk rectangle, hunched in his quilted coat, clapping his hands and pointing, and trying to convey a sense of intensity across those distant green acres. The huge pitchside perimeter does not help. Like Slaven Bilic before him Moyes looks minuscule out there, alone in all that empty space, tiny hands beating the air. He was sitting by the time Leicester scored the opening goal with eight minutes gone. Jamie Vardy skipped down Brandon Sutter Authentic Jersey the left and crossed low. Angelo Ogbonna air-kicked and Marc Albrighton tucked the ball past a static Joe Hart, who looked briefly baffled, shocked to find himself standing inside an aluminium rectangle trying to do things. Moyes sat motionless on his bench as the Leicester fans sang, “You’re getting sacked in the morning.” At which point something happened. West Ham began to rally. Moyes had shuffled his team here, bringing in the mercurial Arthur Masuaku. It was Masuaku who led the fightback, reeling off a few driving runs and showing the athleticism Moyes wants to pack into this team. Andy Carroll also played, although playing is a rather gentle verb to describe what Carroll does on a football pitch these days. A lack of mobility has left him snorting and gasping, always a little short. Carroll does not play football. He inflicts it. He wreaks football. But for a while he really did put himself about, chopping windpipes, winning headers, crashing into the advert hoardings, appearing dramatically in the centre of things, like the fuselage of a http://www.chiefsnflofficialprostore.com/MITCH-MORSE-JERSEY-CHEAP.html burning Messerschmitt tumbling from the skies. http://www.cabsat.nl/showthread.php/14854-Lewis-Hamilton-takes-little-for-granted-at-Sepang?p=43766#post43766

Jürgen Klopp’s fund of trust

“You feel immediately that it’s different, no one is really believing in us. You can feel it. If we do good then it’s: ‘Yes it’s good’ and if we don’t do good then it’s: ‘Oh, they’ve done it again.’” Men's Nike Minnesota Vikings #4 Brett Favre Limited Purple Tank Top Suit NFL JerseyJürgen Klopp is well accustomed to the fluctuating emotions around Liverpool and, as the above reflection on Sevilla demonstrates, Gary Roberts Womens Jersey knew what was coming the moment Guido Pizarro equalised in the 93rd minute of their Champions League mayhem on Tuesday. Back http://www.officialhockeyknights.com/Jake-Bischoff-Jersey-Adidas on the defensive. Calling for perspective once again. Liverpool remain top of their Champions League group and can draw level on points with the champions, Chelsea, in the Premier League on Saturday with a fourth successive home win. Yet the question of trust lingers. Klopp insists he trusts this Liverpool team implicitly. He senses that belief is not universal. Liverpool’s setbacks have been rare this season yet their dramatic nature has strengthened the image of a reckless team. A 5-0 defeat at Manchester City, after Sadio Mané was sent off at 1-0; a Carabao Cup loss at Leicester City having squandered a procession of chances; a calamitous 4-1 reverse at Tottenham Hotspur, their second league defeat of the campaign; and now the second-half collapse in Andalusia. The positivity generated from straightforward wins over Southampton, West Ham United, Maribor and Huddersfield Town before the trip to Sevilla trampled in 48 minutes. Klopp maintains that Kevin Durant Womens Jersey only the performance at Wembley and when Liverpool “stopped playing” at Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán were genuine causes for concern. Two performances out of 20, in other words. And yet the manager of a team that have conceded once at home in the Premier League this season – the lowest in the division along with Manchester United – admits consistency remains “a job” and “a challenge” for Liverpool. Klopp’s team have exhilarated more often than floundered this season. The issue of trust, he argues, lies with those who expect perfection. Liverpool’s manager is not one of them. “Yes, of course I trust this team,” he said before Chelsea’s visit. “It depends on what you expect. Do I expect perfection and then I can trust? No. Then I could not trust, that would be true. Against Sevilla if we win 3-2 or 4-2, which was possible easily, it is exactly the same story. I cannot ignore it. “The moment we conceded the third goal then everything changed for everybody, but not for me. If you don’t close the game these things can happen. “We made mistakes but they made mistakes. They made a lot of unbelievable mistakes by the way. I can trust this team. “We could have done better in a lot of games but that doesn’t minimise my trust, that’s the thing you have to accept. We try and try and try. In this moment we can’t change anything “I think it was the best lineup we could have chosen, somebody maybe thought we could have played Emre [Can] from the beginning, but there was not a lot of things with the lineup we should have changed. We were 3-0 up, we scored two goals from set pieces, fantastic, http://www.officialsharksteamonline.com/Joel_Ward_Jerseyexactly the same, scored the third, played a fantastic pass for the fourth – that’s a really good performance. But then you don’t close the game and in an atmosphere like this then things like this can be possible.” Klopp’s trust extended to Alberto Moreno following another costly display by the left-back against his former club. The Liverpool manager claims he was “100% responsible” for Moreno’s mistakes having started the defender who was treated “like a family member in Sevilla” and lost “one, two, three per cent concentration” as a consequence. “I told him I still trust him 100%,” added Klopp. “I can imagine what people are saying. I can’t be interested in that. The thing I try to really teach the players is that the only thing that is important is what I think for their future. My back is big enough to take what people say about me – if I trust him or my faith in him. We have to carry on. The problem is the whole world watches our mistakes. http://social.leembe.com/forum/topic/166000

Chelsea did not give Mohamed Salah

Eden Hazard has conceded Mohamed Salah “did not get his chance at Chelsea” as the former club-mates prepare to meet as rivals at Anfield on Saturday, with the Belgian so impressed by the impact made by the winger at Liverpool that he intends to ask after the match for his shirt. Vincent Valentine Youth Elite Navy Blue Jersey: Nike NFL New England Patriots Vapor Untouchable Home #99Chelsea had trumped Liverpool in January 2014 to secure the Egyptian from Basel for around £11m when Salah was in effect replacing the departed Juan Mata, only for him to find opportunities limited under the management of José Mourinho. He made six Premier League starts, his top-flight career failing to extend beyond nine hours of football, before loans to Fiorentina and Roma Authentic Charles Johnson Jersey and, eventually, a permanent move to the Stadio Olimpico. Liverpool lured him back last summer for a club record £36.9m and he http://www.nflraidersofficialonline.com/RAIDERS-JALEN-RICHARD-JERSEY has 14 goals in 19 matches, a haul no player at the club has bettered in a season since 2013–14. That has marked him out as a threat in Saturday’s late kick-off. “He is still my friend and we are still in contact,” said Hazard. “He’s a top, top, top player. He did not get his chance at Chelsea – maybe because of the manager, because of the other players? I don’t know. “He has quality but in that period I remember we had me, Willian, Oscar, so for him it was not easy. But he’s a top player, for sure, and we know as a team Womens Troy Aikman Jersey the quality he has. He is a fantastic striker and this season he has scored a lot of goals. It is always good to play against a friend but Liverpool is not only about Salah. They have a lot of quality players.” The Merseyside club’s recruitment department, headed by Dave Fallows, continued to scout Salah throughout his time in Serie A, with their background checks extending to the player’s performance in training camps as well as matches. Jürgen Klopp has suggested the 25-year-old had been “a kid” at Chelsea but is “a man now” and more physically able to compete in the Premier League. “But in training he would do everything,” said Hazard. “Even in the games when he was playing, sometimes he would score goals, so we knew the quality he had. I am just happy for him. “I watched him when he played for Roma – one of my friends from the national team, Radja Nainggolan, is also there – and he did very well. Now he is still at the top. And then even with his country he did well to reach the World Cup. At Liverpool he is still doing well, so I think we need to be careful with him. I want to ask him for his shirt, for sure, on Saturday.” The pair intend to speak on Friday, with Hazard having understood Salah’s desire to leave Chelsea first on loan, and then permanently in summer 2016, in search of regular http://www.officialravensproshoponline.com/Tim-Williams-Jersey first-team football. “His feeling was good,” he said. “When you are not playing at a club you need to go. You need a chance and he took his chance at Fiorentina, so he did everything that you have to do when you are not playing. If I was not playing, I’d want to go. That’s normal because of all the players want to play. With him he did well and I am just happy for him.” Hazard’s penalty against Qarabag on Wednesday was a sixth goal in seven matches, confirming his return to form Womens Kevon Looney Jersey and full fitness after a slow start to the campaign following ankle surgery. Atalanta run Everton ragged

Everton did not pick the most auspicious day to announce they have just signed the land contract for a new stadium at Bramley Moore dock on the Mersey. With their doomed European non-adventure nearing its end a dead rubber against Atalanta fell a long way Womens Tyvon Branch Jerseyshort of filling the present stadium. David Unsworth made nine changes from the side that drew at Crystal Palace at the weekend, and the only part of the ground where empty blue seats were not conspicuous was the section of the Bullens Road stand filled by 3,000 noisy Italians. Nike NFL Jimmy Graham Navy Blue Jersey Youth Limited: #88 Seattle Seahawks Home Vapor Untouchable Incredibly, as the teams lined up on the pitch the stadium announcer introduced the visitors as Lyon. Still, by the time a new riverside home is designed, built and commissioned, there is every chance Everton will have found a new manager. Whether they will have recovered from this scale of humiliation is more debatable. Even with regulars missing this was a reality check for those who believe there has been an improvement under Unsworth. “Unacceptable,” was the caretaker’s verdict. “I asked my players to make it hard for me to leave them out for the next game and the majority of them have made it really easy. Fortunately we have players to come back who are not quite as fragile. We keep conceding really easy goals, people aren’t having to work hard to score against us. Players have to take responsibility. “I’d like to think they are hurting as much as I am right now because, if they are not, they shouldn’t be here. When your best player is an 18-year-old kid [Beni Baningime] who has played only a couple of first-team games it tells you everything you need to know.” Unsworth could have boosted his CV with a first win in Europe but Everton fell behind after 13 minutes. Timothy Castagne made light of whatever cover Cuco Martina and Davy Klaassen were supposed to be providing on the left with a sparkling burst down the wing and into the area, and from his cutback from the by-line it was a simple matter for Bryan Cristante to stab home from close range. Once again Everton had little to offer up front, where Sandro Ramírez was http://www.officialmetsproshop.com/Tom_Seaver_Jerseyunconvincing as a spearhead and most of Wayne Rooney’s best work was confined to the flanks, from where he managed to send in a couple of decent crosses. When Kevin Mirallas got a rare sight of goal on the half hour he brought a good reaction save from Etri Berisha, and though the precision of the finish could be questioned it was considerably better than the skyward effort Ramírez produced in a good position from the rebound. Tom Davies did manage to beat the Atalanta goalkeeper when the visitors struggled to clear a cross just before the interval but Rafael Toloi was in position behind the goalkeeper Etrit Berisha to head clear off the line. Atalanta missed a chance to extend their lead when Ashley Williams brought down Cristante to concede a penalty early in the second half. Alejandro Gómez stepped up to take the http://www.ramsnflofficialproshop.com/WOMENS_YOUTH_JOSH_REYNOLDS_JERSEY.htmlkick but Joel Robles dived to his right to keep Ray Bourque Youth jersey it out. Everton’s reserve goalkeeper was in action again moments later when keeping out a deflection off the head of Williams from a corner, and when the ubiquitous Cristante headed the ball back goalwards Jonjoe Kenny cleared off the line. Hans Hateboer showed strength to hold off Kenny and pace to break into the box as the visitors threatened again, only to rather waste his hard work by shooting too close to Robles with the goal at his mercy. A second goal was bound to come and it arrived from a set piece in the 64th minute. Gómez took a corner and Cristante climbed above Davies and Williams to glance in from close range. Ramírez did pull a goal back before the end, helped by Rooney and Mirallas, though it was an easy night for the Italians and for Cristante in particular, even before goals from the substitutes Robin Gosens and Andreas Cornelius, with two, piled on the misery for the home side in the last five minutes. The Swedish underdogs Ostersund joined AC Milan, Nice and Villarreal in the last 32 of the Europa League as the make-up of the competition’s knockout stage began to take shape. Ostersund, managed by the Englishman Graham Potter, were among the more surprising names to seal their spot with a game to go after beating Zorya 2-0 to make it three games unbeaten at home in Group J.http://www.fitnesswelt.de/fitness-forum/krafttraining-f1/should-the-all-rounder-jersey-be-prevented-from-go-t11669.html

We need a culture shift

My six-year-old daughter is football mad and her heroes are Neymar and Ronaldo. In the 21st century it’s not unusual for girls to choose football as their obsession and it’s natural that two of the best players in the world are her idols while I’m just proud to be her dad – who also happens to be a professional footballer. Youth Chicago Blackhawks #23 Michael Jordan Reebok White Premier 2017 Winter Classic NHL JerseyEvery school day she puts on her uniform, which comprises trousers, a shirt and tie and jumper – just like all of the boys at her school. This is her choice and we are fortunate that her school allows her to decide what she wants to wear rather than insisting she wear the traditional dress and blouse assigned to girls. They’re making an effort to have empathy with her choices, which makes me proud because it makes me feel like society is more open-minded and inclusive than it was even a decade ago. She is still young but ultimately if she grows up to be gay or transgender, as a parent it would be fantastic to point to role models within football that she can relate to as being similar, normal and not “different”. Whether it is a phase or an identity that she will keep for the rest of her life is not important to me – I will support and be proud of my child no matter what, but it has really opened my eyes to the fact that society is becoming more accepting and tolerant of http://www.officialathleticshop.com/authentic-10-marcus-semien-jersey.html all different types of people. This weekend the Stonewall UK Rainbow Laces campaign launches in the Football League and Premier League to promote the important message of inclusivity and respect for LGBT people within football and society also. During Sky’s The Debate show this week, I was asked if football is doing enough to back up the campaign and afterwards I asked myself the question: If I was gay would I be comfortable enough to come out? I know the macho dressing-room culture in football, the prospect of playing in front of thousands of fans as a Womens Willie Cauley-Stein Jersey gay man or being spotlighted even in a positive way by the media for the very personal matter of my sexuality and the most honest answer I can give is that I hope so. At Brighton, I believe that my team-mates would not only be accepting of a homosexual player within their ranks but support him in any way that he feels appropriate to encourage that player to exert his human right of being himself, and rightfully be proud of that. The question has been asked repeatedly why so few professional players have felt comfortable enough to come out but instead of asking the question of the individuals, surely we should be asking the footballing industry and the culture that surrounds it to create an Grant Hill Womens Jersey environment where those players will not feel isolated or judged for their right of being their true selves within their profession. I had an experience some years ago where I heard a manager say: “If I found out one of my players is gay, they wouldn’t be playing in my team.” It was said in a flippant, tongue-in-cheek way that could be placed under the banner of our catch-all term – banter – but if I was gay and within earshot of that remark from somebody in a position of power, it would not only hurt me to the core but make me question whether football is ready to consider me an equal and not somebody who should be treated in a different, negative way as a result of my sexuality. I genuinely believe the answer lies within all of us – players, coaches, supporters and members of the media. We all have to question our everyday habits, language and behaviour in order to help all members of our society to be comfortable and safe whether LBGT, black, white, Christian, Muslim or any other denomination. It may be the case that banter used in the dressing room or stands is meant to be humour or harmless but we all have to take responsibility and understand that in making these remarks we could be severely damaging people in the long term and limiting their place within our society. I feel ashamed that our men’s game, followed and revered by millions of people, does not at the moment have a role model who feels comfortable enough to be openly gay and play a sport that we all love. As players we are watched by adoring children, teenagers and adults and it would a major step http://www.officialdodgersshoponline.com/WOMENS-CODY-BELLINGER-JERSEY.html forward if our youth who are coming to terms with their own identity and sexuality have positive gay role models playing a game that they love and have someone they can be proud to relate to. It’s my hope that very soon we will have openly gay footballers playing in all of our leagues, who are comfortable enough to be themselves and in turn be role models for the millions who adore football but for this to happen we need to do more than wear rainbow laces, we need to work towards enabling a culture where a footballer can be famous, gay and proud.http://www.onechristianlove.com/member/blog_post_view.php?postId=27587

Liverpool investigate claims police

Liverpool are investigating claims fans were mistreated by Spanish police, with some allegedly assaulted and denied entry to Womens Sven Baertschi Jersey the stadium before Tuesday’s Champions League draw with Sevilla. Majestic Bill Lee Authentic Men's Jersey - MLB Boston Red Sox #37 Green Salute to Service The match kicked off with almost half the away section empty. We will then relay them to the club and Uefa. What we are hearing are http://www.officialedmontonoilers.com/Adidas-Andrej-Sekera-Jersey a combination of things, of crowd control problems inside and outside of the ground. “We’ve had supporters forced into various parts of the ground. There were fans who had tickets for the upper and lower tiers ending up next to each other, leading to more people in the upper tier than there should have been. One of our Womens Tyler Johnson Jersey committee members has also reported being pushed and kicked from behind by a steward.” Fans of Leicester City reported maltreatment at the hands of Seville’s police before their Champions League tie in the city in February and it is understood that complaints against Spanish police are a constant theme from travelling fans, not just from England but Germany Andrew Cashner Jersey and the Netherlands too. The chief executive of the Football Supporters’ Federation, Kevin Miles, called for more to be done to protect supporters’ safety. “Sadly there was a predictable inevitability to these events as the Spanish police have a consistent track record of ill treatment and abuse of visiting fans,” he said. “They particularly seem to relish attacking fans of English clubs. Through the network of Football Supporters’ Europe we have raised this matter repeatedly with Uefa and we know Julius Randle Womens Jersey they share many of our concerns.” Liverpool collapsed in the second half to squander a three-goal lead against Sevilla but a draw with Spartak Moscow at Anfield on 6 December will be enough to send them through to the Champions League knockout stages. http://asmap-inform.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=833223

Willian eases Chelsea

There was no manic celebration from Antonio Conte and his players at the final whistle, polite handshakes replacing joyful punches of the air, but all in the visitors’ ranks could take pride in a job professionally done. Comfortable victory in Baku has extended Chelsea’s Champions League campaign into the new-year knockout phase. They may not appreciate it at Anfield on Saturday, when aching limbs will kick in as they heave to deal with a wounded Liverpool, but the 5,000-mile round trip to Azerbaijan has been distinctly worthwhile. Elite Women's Justin Pugh Red Alternate Jersey: NFL Nike New York Giants #67 Vapor UntouchableThe final group game against Atlético Madrid, a daunting prospect when the section was drawn, will now merely determine the leadership of the section. “We have reached our first target: to go through into the knockout,” Conte said. “And to avoid the game with Atlético becoming decisive for us is very important. It will be a good chance now to have another rotation with my players.” Jonathan Quick Youth Adidas Navy Blue 2016 Authentic World Cup Hockey Jersey - Away Team USA #32 Jerseys In a crammed schedule in which margin for error has always felt so slim, testing the head coach’s mood as much as his players’ fitness levels, a relatively relaxed evening in early December is to be cherished. In the context of what ultimately felt a comfortable night’s work it was easy to forget that http://www.titansnflofficialproshop.com/Authentic-Taywan-Taylor-Jersey Qarabag, much improved from the side who sunk without trace at Stamford Bridge on debut at this level in September, had initially threatened their visitors. Indeed, had their former Birmingham City midfielder Michel converted an early chance rather than clip his shot against the crossbar when it had seemed easier to score early on, then this could have been a distinctly more awkward http://www.wildofficialauthentic.com/Hoodie occasion. Instead the hosts were blunted by Rashad Sadygov’s dismissal and Chelsea’s busy energy duly prevailed. Conte could admire the grace with which his players manoeuvred the ball, with David Luiz successfully reintegrated after his spell out of favour and the side efficient and untroubled once ahead. The head coach has now seen his team win successive away games 4-0 and was even able to withdraw the excellent Eden Hazard and overworked Marcos Alonso – Womens Terrell Suggs Jersey his only fit left wing-back – long before the end, with the only disappointment his reluctance to blood the 18-year-old Dujon Sterling from the bench. Given the formality the contest had become, capped by Willian’s blistering Womens Pat Elflein Jersey fourth goal rasped in from distance near the end, a European debut might have added to the general sense of satisfaction. Sterling will have to wait. Many of the locals had departed by http://www.officialedmontonoilers.com/Adidas-Wayne-Gretzky-Jersey the time Willian plundered his second five minutes from time, exploiting space just outside the penalty area to beat the diving Ibrahim Sehic. The majority left choked in anticlimax, those encouraging draws against Atlético buried beneath another avalanche of Chelsea goals, and grumbling at the perceived eccentricities of the referee, Manuel de Sousa. The Portuguese had spied Sadygov’s clumsy touch on Willian’s back 19 minutes in, the Brazilian crumpling to the turf to claim the penalty with the captain, much to his own bewilderment, duly dismissed. Gurban Gurbanov, the home team’s manager, reluctantly conceded the offence may have warranted a penalty, but the double punishment seemed harsh and leant itself to conspiracy theories. “Maybe if we were not a small country and a small team, the decision might have been different,” he offered. “Chelsea didn’t need that red card.” The crowd wailed their disapproval when the incident was replayed on Jaylon Smith Youth jersey the big screens at half-time, and had further cause to vent their spleen at De Sousa before the end. Regardless, this became a procession from the moment Hazard converted from the spot, becoming Belgium’s leading scorer – with eight – in the Champions League. Conte will have purred at the ease at which his players carved open opponents now steeled merely to defend, particularly for their second: a culmination of crisp and accurate passes between Cesc Fàbregas, Pedro, Willian and Hazard. The Belgian eventually back-heeled his assist square, dizzied markers failing to anticipate such impudence, for Willian http://www.floridapanthersofficialonline.com/Adidas-Vincent-Trocheck-Jersey to collect and calmly finish beyond the helpless Sehic. The goalkeeper excelled thereafter to deny Pedro, Willian and Hazard – a live-wire front three, buzzing disconcertingly around panicked defenders – and should not have been given a chance by A.Q. Shipley Jersey the substitute Álvaro Morata, who steered a shot wide from close range without a marker in sight. Instead Gara Garayev’s tug on Willian’s shoulder, yanking back his shirt, was penalised by the referee for another soft penalty award. “A little bit of contact,” the Brazilian said post-match. “So, for me, it was a penalty. I don’t think you guys thought it was …” The locals definitely did not, but Fàbregas converted at the second attempt anyway. http://www.hochburger-ruinen-fetzzer.de/index.php?forum-showposts-110137

Jeff Stelling is known for being a cheery sort. The most exasperated he ever gets is when Hartlepool are drubbed and, even then, he usually bears it with the fatalism of the long-suffering supporter. This week, however, the Sky Sports presenter has starred in a much-shared clip in which he goes on an actual rant. And the subject? Expected goals. Men's Winnipeg Jets #64 Logan Stanley Adidas Green Premier Salute To Service NHL JerseyIn the run-up to their coverage of the north London derby, Stelling observed to his Soccer http://www.authenticmlbrangersstore.com/Authentic-Tyson-Ross-Jersey Saturday pundits that Arsène Wenger had done a daft Womens Josh Jackson Jersey thing. “He quoted expected goals!” Stelling said to an audible “No!” from one of his guests (perhaps Phil Thompson). “He’s the first person I’ve ever heard take any notice of expected goals, which must be the most useless stat in the history of football! What does it tell you? The game’s finished 3-1, why do you show expected goals afterwards?” Stelling’s remarks prompted much laughter in the studio and, after Soccer AM took a grab of the video, http://www.authenticclevelandindians.com/Yan-Gomes-Jersey it got a lot of chuckles online, too. The sole exception perhaps being among the football analytics community, who were of the mind that expected goals is not actually the most useless stat in the history of football. That’s possession. The basic concept of expected goals is simple. It answers the question: should a player have scored that chance? Or, when you add all the chances together, should a team have won that match? Defining each chance according to lots of different factors and then comparing that chance with similar moments in past matches, the outcome is a percentage: that chance, one time out of 10, would be a goal. The question of whether this stat is useful to you depends on what you want from a game. A lot of people, increasingly known as “real football people”, don’t need a stat to tell them what they can see with their own eyes. Others, the analytics crowd or “football nerds”, think it provides context. Especially if you didn’t actually watch the game. Dig down into what makes up an expected goals statistic (commonly known as “xG”) and things can get more complicated. There are lots of different takes on xG, compiled by everyone from the stats gurus Opta to individual fans. While they all might include the same basic information – location of the chance, where the ball had previously arrived from – each will have their own idiosyncrasies. Some might weigh the fact the chance fell to a striker’s foot rather than their head as being more likely to be a goal, but what happens when that head is Andy Carroll’s? There are lots of unknowns in any model and, when you put them all together, that might make the ultimate figure less reliable rather than more. There is a bit of Old Man Yells at Cloud about Stelling’s outburst and that’s probably on purpose. Soccer Saturday is a bunch of old pros watching television, the ultimate “real football men” and perhaps the diametric opposite of nerds plotting outcomes on graphs. Its audience, meanwhile, are those people who turn on the telly to get their football information on a Saturday afternoon. They are unlikely to be keen followers of the latest trends in statistical analysis. On the other hand they might be more likely to see football as a simple game that doesn’t need to become any more complicated. Stelling is just giving his audience what they want. There will likely be more gotchas of this kind in the months and seasons T.J. Ward Youth jersey ahead (and whatever you think of xG, the subtext that Wenger only mentioned it because he lost to Manchester City is surely Ben Scrivens Jersey spot-on). But the broader point is that xG got a mention on Soccer Saturday. It also features regularly, if briefly, on Match of the Day. Expected goals is a stat that’s here to stay and in just a few years time will be part of the furniture. The question is whether it is the end of the quantification of football or just the beginning.http://www.tennis-motion-connect.com/blogs/post/55431

Spurs secure top spot

When the time comes to pull the names out of the hat at Uefa headquarters next month, none of the second-placed teams will want to draw Tottenham Hotspur. There is no longer evidence of any inferiority complex when they rub shoulders with Europe’s elite and they will fancy themselves against anyone after winning Group H – at the expense of the mighty Real Madrid, no less – with a game to spare after this mature, resilient victory away to Borussia Dortmund. Men's Adidas Golden State Warriors #1 JaVale McGee Swingman White Alternate 2017 The Finals Patch NBA JerseyTheir reward is a relaxing evening when they host Apoel Nicosia at Wembley next month and, more importantly, playing the second leg of their last-16 tie at home. Behind to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s fine goal, Tottenham rallied in the http://www.officialauthenticchargersstore.com/womens_korey_toomer_jerseysecond half to end Dortmund’s slim hopes of snatching second from Madrid, with Harry Kane scoring his sixth goal in five games, Son Heung-min applying a super finishing touch and Dele Alli producing an unselfish display. For Dortmund, exiting the Champions League was tough to take. Peter Bosz’s beleaguered side visit Madrid, who destroyed Apoel, in their final match and are not even sure of finishing third, but they could not complain. Tottenham were superior.“It was difficult because Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund and Apoel are always difficult but we try to enjoy and be competitive and try to win, that was the idea in every single game,” said Mauricio Pochettino afterwards. “I am happy for the result, to be top of the Authentic Ryan Allen Jerseytable, first, but we’re looking forward to playing the next game.” Nike Quinton Spain Youth Black Limited Jersey: #67 NFL Tennessee Titans 2016 Salute To ServiceAs Tottenham set off in pursuit of the result that would increase their chances of a favourable draw in the last 16, a year since defeat in Monaco brought a premature end to their interest in this competition for another campaign, it was worth taking a moment to reflect on the brutal manner in which Dortmund devoured Womens Raymond Felton Jerseythem in the Europa League two seasons ago. Tottenham have come a long way since those days, back when they seemed to shrink in the company of the silkiest continental sides, and securing their progress from this most daunting of groups with that enchanting victory over Madrid three weeks ago meant that they began with a sense of freedom at one of European football’s most iconic venues. However it was also a mark of Tottenham’s tougher mentality that it was difficult to detect any weaknesses http://www.footballsteelersonline.com/Stephon-Tuitt-Jerseyin their line-up, three days after the bruising http://www.officialvikingsjerseysstore.com/Marcus_Sherels_Jersey_Cheapexperience of losing the north London derby. Mauricio Pochettino was Alexander Steen Jersey unwilling to accept any loss of momentum, even though the stakes were lower than might have been anticipated when the groups were drawn, while he knew that Dortmund were not to be taken lightly despite the mess the Germans have made of their qualification attempts. Two draws with Apoel meant that Dortmund’s hopes of progression were already hanging by a thread by the time news filtered through that Madrid were hammering the lowly Cypriots, and perhaps that explained the muted celebrations that greeted Aubameyang’s glorious opener after 30 minutes. The goal was a reminder of Dortmund’s class, the Gabon striker drilling a low shot past Hugo Lloris after being released by a stunning flick from the impressive Andriy Yarmolenko, but it was http://www.football49ersofficialonline.com/WOMENS_YOUTH_ZANE_BEADLES_JERSEY.htmla bittersweet moment, too. Bosz, who is under intense pressure after a dreadful run that has seen them slip from the Bundesliga summit to fifth place, stayed in his seat on the bench, his expression impossible to read. Aubameyang, who was back in the side after being dropped for disciplinary reasons at the weekend, hardly looked delighted, even though the striker was a constant thorn in the side of Tottenham’s back three. The sense of what might have been hung over Dortmund. Yarmolenko was elusive in the hole, impudently creating an early chance that Aubameyang scuffed wide, but Tottenham also enjoyed themselves at times. Pochettino made four changes from the defeat to Arsenal, bringing in Danny Rose, Serge Aurier, Harry Winks and Son Heung-min, whose movement threatened to expose Dortmund’s risky high line, and Roman Burki had to make excellent saves to deny Christian Eriksen and Eric Dier before half-time. Despite trailing, Tottenham felt confident of prising open an unconvincing defence and it did not come as a surprise when they equalised three minutes after the break. Dortmund’s self-destructive tendencies were encapsulated when Jeremy Toljan’s indecision allowed Rose to divert the ball to Dele Alli, who quickly shuffled it on to Harry Kane. The striker had been a peripheral presence, but he bullied Dortmund at Wembley in September and his shot, aimed low to Burki’s right from 20 yards, settled Pochettino’s side. Aubameyang faded, Yarmolenko’s influence diminished and the moment Tottenham were waiting for arrived when Alli, showing great determination and skill, bustled past a series of weak challenges and into the area before finding Son, who curled a peach of a shot past Ben Ijalana Jersey Burki.http://123-club.com/oxwall/forum/topic/7758

slip three-goal lead at Sevilla

Jürgen Klopp bristled at the comparison but it was unavoidable. Liverpool owed Sevilla for the 2016 Europa League final defeat, their manager had admitted beforehand, but they were transported back to Basel by another second-half collapse, another night to forget for Alberto Moreno and another three-goal fightback. The debt has increased. Adidas NHL Men's Nick Holden White Away Premier Jersey - #22 New York RangersThere was no defeat or heartache for Liverpool on this occasion, although this was not a night for consolations. They were in http://www.officialcavaliershop.com/authentic-32-jeff-green-jersey.html rampant, clinical and formidable form in the first half as two goals from Roberto Firmino and one from Sadio Mané threatened to devastate Sevilla’s 12-month unbeaten home record. It remains intact thanks to an astonishing recovery and Liverpool crumbling, defensively and offensively, when the pressure was on. Guido Pizarro’s equaliser in the third minute of added time cost Liverpool qualification for the knockout stage of the Champions League as group winners. A point at home to Spartak Moscow next month will suffice. It should not have been necessary. Pizarro’s close-range finish sparked pandemonium around the raucous stadium. Sevilla’s players and staff cavorted on the pitch. Thousands of luminous wristbands, issued to produce a spectacular light display before kick-off, were thrown from the stands. Klopp simply looked on in disbelief. Seven times he has faced the Spanish side as manager of Mainz, Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool and he has yet Delano Hill Jersey to taste victory in any. He may never have a better opportunity. The blow may prove greater to Liverpool’s self-esteem than their qualification prospects, but the reappearance of a soft underbelly after such an impressive start was galling for the manager. Defensively, they were found wanting again yet it would be remiss to apportion blame solely at the feet of his defenders. The visitors’ bravery on the ball and clinical edge deserted them after the restart. The substitutes Emre Can and James Milner, introduced to quell the fightback in place of Moreno and Philippe Coutinho, had excellent chances to extend Liverpool’s advantage at 3-2. So, too, Mané. There was an inevitability to http://www.usasoccershops.com/nick-rimando-world-cup-jersey Sevilla’s stoppage-time reprieve when they went begging. Liverpool could not have dreamed of a better start against a strong, experienced but initially nervous home side. Ninety seconds had elapsed when Firmino punctured the defence and the fantastic atmosphere, a considerable feat in itself considering the noise level, by converting Coutinho’s corner at the back post. Georginio Wijnaldum flicked on the delivery and the Brazilian was unmarked as he steered a precise finish into the small gap between the goalkeeper, Sergio Rico, and the woodwork. Sevilla could have commenced their comeback much earlier but Nolito and Wissam Ben Yedder squandered two excellent chances inside two minutes as Éver Banega’s quality distribution stretched the Liverpool defence. The former Manchester City forward was foiled by a good save from Loris Karius, who tipped his shot on to a post and gathered the rebound, while Ben Yedder scuffed wide when clean through. The visitors made Sevilla pay almost immediately with a replica of their opening goal. Rico conceded a corner with a save from Firmino after the Brazilian was sent clean through by an excellent ball from Jordan Henderson. His defenders had not learned their lesson. Coutinho swept over another inviting delivery, Firmino won the aerial challenge and, with Gabriel Mercado asleep at the back post, Mané reacted instinctively to steer a diving header back across goal and into the far corner. Sevilla were staring at humiliation in front of their disbelieving supporters when Liverpool scored a third with 30 minutes played. This time Mané was the provider as he sprinted on to a sumptuous long pass from Moreno over the Kevin Byard Youth jersey defender Johannes Geis and forced Rico into a low save to his left. The rebound fell perfectly for Firmino, who had time to control, look away and lash home into an empty net.http://saknada.com.au/ssn/forum/topic/33926
